Thursday, November 4th, 2021. Casa 0101 hosted the opening reception of Fernando Barragan’s new exhibit Squaring Off With Brushstrokes of Paint in its Jean Deleage Gallery. Curated by Jimmy Centeno, Fernando’s artwork captures the struggles of society in the current political climate. “These are not easy to paint. It kills you. It’s a lot of emotion to see people suffer” says Fernando about his No Somos Animales mural. His powerful strokes and choice of color palette communicate the emotions of his community. “I see the struggle everyday of the gente when I walk the streets. You just don’t want to see people struggle, you just want to hug them and tell them everything is going to be alright.”

With dozens of guests in attendance, including artist Margaret Garcia, the evening culminated with a musical performance by Big Joe Hurt, whose complementary acoustic melodies provided a truly immersive experience.
