SB 805 Press Conference
Josefina Lopez speaks at the SB 805 Press Conference on Monday August 16th, 2021
Monday, August 16, 2021. Casa 0101, along with the SB 805 coaltion, helped organize a press conference at the Fountain Theatre to voice support for SB 805, the Save the Performing Arts Act of 2021. Senator Susan Rubio, LA City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell and a host of celebrities including Danny Glover, Kirsten Vangsness, Michelle Krusiec, Arianna Ortiz, Stephen Sachs, Snehal Desai, Jon Imparato and Martha Demson.
The goal of the press conference was two-fold, to thank Governor Newsom for supporting the arts with a one-time $50M allocations to small non-profit performing arts organizations AND to urge Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, chair of the Appropriations Committee in the state Assembly to bring up and pass SB 805, the true long term solution to supporting small performing arts organizations throughout California.
The iconic Fountain Theatre in Hollywood hosted the press conference on their outdoor stage. Led by Josefina Lopez all the artists onstage passionately recognized the role of small theaters in the ecosystem that is California’s creative economy; the role of small theater in the development of their careers; the role they play in the creation of new works; the positive impact they have in their communities and for uplifting voices that are not usually told in larger theaters or in Hollywood.
