The Casa 0101 Youth Present: The Train
In 2021, Casa 0101 continued to offer its many programs via Zoom. In the Summer Casa 0101 safely re-opened its doors, beginning with its On-Camera Youth Production program.
In 2021, Casa 0101 also offered:
- Seventeen 10-week classes for youth (both online and in person), in playwriting, acting and dancing
- Nine 10-week classes for adults in playwriting
- A virtual art exhibit, featuring two virtual Q&A’s with Emmy award-winning cinematographer/photographer John Simmons
- Two in-person art exhibit openings featuring artist Fernando Barragan and John Simmons
- A virtual edition of our annual Chicanas, Cholas y Chisme short play festival
- Our first in-person stage production of 2021 titled The Nun & the Countess by Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz
- The full workshop production of a new musical, developed at Casa 0101 in partnership with TNH Productions titled Arena: A House Musical
As part of a coalition of California performing arts organizations, Casa 0101 advocated for a solution to AB 5, the state law restricting the use of Independent Contractors, including in the performing arts. In partnership with The Wellness Center through a Department of Public Health grant, Casa 0101 used arts and digital filmmaking to perform COVID education and outreach in hard-to-reach populations. Casa 0101 also welcomed two new staff in 2021, Itzel Ocampo, Office Administrator, and Max Brother, Technical Director.
