Uncovering The Hidden History of Mexican and Black Solidarity

Casa 0101 welcomed Prof. Ron Wilkins for his talk and presentation “Uncovering the Hidden History of Mexican and Black Solidarity.”

Saturday, February 8, 2020.  Organized by gallery Curator, Jimmy Centeno, this talk was a free event chronicling the often overlooked, and sometimes hidden, history of solidarity between the Mexican and Black community.  From a historical lens, Professor Wilkins detailed the positive collaborations and mutually beneficial interactions, from Mexico’s refusal to extradite runaway slaves to that populations contributions to Mexico’s Independence.  Professor Wilkins has used this history as a key element in a contemporary context in his work preventing and resolving conflict between these populations.
